Adoption Picnic

We went to the annual picnic sponsored by the Adoption Ministry of YWAM, where we gathered with many friends and met new ones.  We were surprised by some of the people we ran into, such as former teachers and coaches of our daughters and people from our foster training and agency.  What a joy to catch up with them and share stories.  It’s comforting to know we are surrounded by such a great support system as we prepare to bring the boys home.  This picture is so precious that I had to share it (with permission from the parents).

It was a wonderful gathering of families having a lot of fun!  Kudos to the people who made it all happen.

Here’s a link to many of the pictures we took while Phil was staying with us.  We really enjoyed getting to know him and are looking forward to staying in contact with him.  Someday, we want to meet his wife.  Click on the picture of him cooking to see more pictures.

ECC Reunion

Al & Pam hosted the THIRD Annual Edgewood Community Church reunion.  We had a fantastic time and were encouraged by what God is doing in the lives of our friends.  Of course, we shared what He’s doing in our lives as well.  Click the picture to see more.

If you did not hear about it, but should have, please let us know so we can ensure you get invited next year.

2009 Averill Family Reunion

On the first of August we gathered in Snohomish, Washington to catch up with our extended family.  It was great to see those who came, and to talk about those who didn’t (just kidding? you decide, but you should be there next year).  Click on the picture to see a bunch more…

Sandi’s Visit

Sandi & Sary-Jo

Sandi & Sary-Jo

Sary-Jo’s dear friend from Idaho, Sandi, stopped by for a visit.  Her son in law is stationed at Fort Lewis so we are looking forward to many more visits.  Sandi has four grandchildren now!!  WOW!!  She drove here with the two that live near her and then came over with Amy, Brian, and their two.  It was a hot night, but we sure enjoyed seeing all of them!!  Click on the picture to see more.

Phil

We are currently hosting a teacher from China.  He goes by the name of Phil and is here with a group of high school students from Chong Qing.  Sarah and Kyle hosted him until Sarah left for South Africa.  His English is fantastic and we have truly enjoyed getting to know him.  One of the highlights of having him with us has been watching him learn about baseball.  Here are a couple pictures from a trip to see the Mariners.

Last Day of School

Second grade pirates

Second grade pirates

Friday was the last day of school.  Sary-Jo took a bunch of pictures, but we don’t have parental permission to post good pictures of the kids.  However, we’re going to include a group photo of her second-grade pirates and some pictures of friends she works with.  Her good friend and prayer partner Holly is moving to Thailand where she will teach next year.  Sary-Jo will miss her tremendously.

Our niece, Lauren, had her 9th grade dance Wednesday night.  Before the dance, Sary-Jo went over and took some pictures.  Lauren looked great and we hear she had a great time.  Lauren and Alyssa both received end of the year awards at their schools.  We’re very proud of them!! Trip to California – Memorial Day Weekend 2009

With Ryans family at the Berkeley Rose Garden

With Ryan's family at the Berkeley Rose Garden

Ryan graduated from the University of California at Berkeley on Saturday with a degree in Industrial Engineering.  On Friday Ryan got very encouraging news on the job front and should hear soon whether or not he has landed a position in software technical support.  We flew down Saturday morning and finally had a chance to meet some of the people that have been very important in Janel’s life the last few years.

We stayed with Janel’s host family, John and Kay, who were extremely gracious.  Their home is beautiful and they seem to enjoy taking care of people.  We had a delightful time getting to know them and we enjoyed playing games and talking late into the night.  We can see why Janel says they’re very much like us (and we take that as a compliment).

We had a very enjoyable time with Ryan’s parents, Paul and Kathy, and with his sister Leslea and her husband Nick.  We all have quite a bit in common and we certainly feel like we’ve known them a lot longer than two days.

After church (Janel played drums with the worship band), we spent all of Sunday with Ryan’s family, eating, shopping, exploring the Berkeley Rose Garden, and visiting – all in all, a very enjoyable day.  Nick and Randy were continually getting game updates as Randy’s Mariners eventually prevailed over Nick’s Giants!  Janel was working so we stopped in her shop along the way.  That evening, Kay prepared a great meal for us and we continued to get to know each other.

On Monday, Janel and Ryan treated us to a Giants’ game.  The weather was great and so was the game.  AT&T Park overlooks the bay and is beautiful.  And the timing of the game was great as we went straight to the airport to catch our flight home after the last out.

And the best part, of course, was seeing Janelly again!!!  Thanks, Janel, for making it a very special weekend.  We love you.
