Hawaii 2009

At the airport

As vacation approached we had mixed feelings.  It seemed a bit foolish to take the week away with looming job loss, but we had already paid for the airfare and accommodations.  So, after a few days to think and pray, we decided to go.  Along with us were Paul & Chris Jakeman and Larry & Gayle Seitz.  We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa at Ko Olina (on Oahu) and had a very good time.  We took time to rest, reflect, pray, and enjoy ourselves.  Sunsets were amazing!  Having the other couples there was a true blessing.

It was a bit cooler than we expected and it was quite windy.  We took TONS of pictures, but have posted a select set (so don’t panic – click the photo shown to see the rest).

Birthday Fun & Food

On Sunday, we got together with family and friends for food and fun at The Old Spaghetti Factory.  We got some really good pictures (and a few that are marginal, but they’re all here).  Click on the picture to see more.

Sary-Jo with her singing buddy

We won a trip to Las Vegas that included airfare and two nights at The Venetian.  We were able to extend it for a few days and celebrate both our anniversary and New Years.  We had a great time, although one time is sufficient for New Years Eve in Vegas!  We saw several shows and spent a fair amount of time beginning the paperwork for adoption.  We were truly blessed and enjoyed it thoroughly.  Click on our picture to see many more.  When the first picture appears, hover over the edges to go forward or back through the pictures.

Christmas Eve

Much of the Averill clan was at Grammy & Grampa’s on Christmas Eve.  We had a great time and took a bunch of pictures.  Click on Jaidyn’s picture to see a bunch more.

Nutcracker

We took Sarah, Kyle, Janel and Ryan to the Nutcracker in Seattle.  We also had a great Moroccan dinner.  There is still quite a bit of snow on the ground.  We tried to go to the Pacific Science Center, but they were closed.  Click the picture to see more.

Our FIRST Christmas gathering was with the “Tacoma” wing of the family.  We had a great time at Steve and Carrie Swafford’s home.  Click on the family picture to see a bunch more.

Thanksgiving 2008

Randy & Sary-Jo

Randy & Sary-Jo

Thanksgiving brought out mixed emotions this year.  Obviously we have much to be thankful for – I won’t bother starting a list because it would never reach its end.  We are especially thankful for Jackie, and that she knew the Lord.  But she passed away just a few days before Thanksgiving.  We had a small gathering at our home to give thanks to the Lord of creation and to comfort each other.  Click on the picture to see more.
